MIS - TIME LINE

1979

MIS is established as a services company for drilling rig fabrication, repair, and maintenance.

1982

MIS expands its customer base and scope of services to offer fabrication, construction, engineering, and procurement services and diversifies into operations and maintenance contracts.

1985

MIS acquires the assets of an American safety services company, which later becomes the MIS Sunbelt H2S, Fire and Safety Services Division. Sunbelt offers a range of services, including H2S protection, and oil field & construction safety. MIS negotiates with the Sharjah, UAE government to lease the former Feildco Gulf Services fabrication facility in Sharjah's Port Khalid.

1986

MIS moves its fabrication yard and base to the Sharjah Port facility to perform larger onshore construction projects, and to support major offshore construction contractors.

1987

To develop further its capacity for the supply of skilled craft personnel, MIS acquires two operating contracts from local Dubai companies and combines these with an existing contract for the supply of technical operations, maintenance, and construction personnel for a large Dubai natural gas company. These contracts continue to this day.

1990

MIS combines its fabrication capabilities with a rapidly growing offshore construction company, Offshore Pipelines Inc. (OPI), into a joint venture, OPMI. MIS's role in the joint venture includes the operation of OPMI's major offshore fabrication yard in Bahrain.

1990-1991

The Gulf War creates a large market for construction services in Kuwait, and MIS wins several projects to support the drilling and rebuilding program planned at the end of the war. After the conflict ends, MIS establishes a branch in Kuwait with an agreement to manage and operate the machine and fabrication shop of Hamad Al Hamad & Partners WLL.

In 1992 through 1994 alone, MIS participates in major projects representing a total work commitment of more than 5,000,000 man-hours.

1995

OPMI joint venture ends when OPI merges with McDermott's marine operations. After the merger, a settlement of OPMI's joint-venture assets with McDermott results in MIS receiving and transferring to Sharjah all cranes and movable fabrication equipment from the joint venture.

1995

MIS re-enters the marine fabrication, modification, and maintenance market for drilling rigs and marine vessels and performs several projects for major drilling contractors.

1996 -1997

Eager to continue its expansion, even as most companies down-size operations, MIS invests in the Omani market, opening MIS Co. Ltd. & Partners L.L.C., a joint-shareholding company, complete with a fabrication facility in the Rusayl Industrial Estate.

1998

MIS wins a major contract to fabricate two self-propelled barges for transporting liquid ammonia gas.

1999

MIS remains a leader in marine, process, structural engineering, fabrication and construction projects.

2000-2001

MIS commences activities in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in a joint operating company with AYTB and the Shoaibi Group. MIS and its partners acquire and re-open the former fabrication facilities of Austrian Energy Arabia in Jubail, KSA.

MIS Sharjah enjoys continued success in the rig refurbishment sector, including a major refurbishment and upgrade project for IOOC: Al Borz Jackup Rig.

2002

MIS wins its largest ever multi-million dollar contract from BP ARCO Qatar for the refurbishment of the DMS Venture (now Al Morjan Rig) and subsequent construction and installation of a Permanent Facility (PPF) on the refurbished rig for installation at the Al Rayyan Offshore Field in Qatar.

MIS successfully completes the fabrication of several FPSO modules, reinforcing its reputation as a module fabrication leader in the Middle East.

2003

MIS inaugurated the new machine shop facility in Kish Island, Iran.

MIS announces the completion of the civil works of their major expansion project for the MIS Sharjah Fabrication Yard. The project added approximately 75,000 M2 to MIS’ Sharjah Fabrication Yard. Also the new sheet pile jetty installed will have a water depth of –8.0 M at low tide and approximately 400 M length

The first major project for the newly expanded yard is awarded by National Drilling Company (NDC) for the complete refurbishment and upgrading of its Al-Ittihad Rig.

2004

MIS enjoys continued success in the marine and offshore sector, including two major contracts to fabricate a riser platform and a floating storage offloading (FSO) barge.

2005

Qatar Petroleum awarded a multi-million dollar contract to MIS to engineer, procure and construct the HFO Bunkering Facilityfor Qatar Fuel Co. (WOQOOD) in Qatar.

Once completed, ships carrying fuel will berth at the Dry Cargo berth, and utilizing ship pumps, the fuel will be stored in two storage tanks via pipeline. From these storage tanks, fuel will be pumped to ships at Berth 1 and 2, via pipeline, Loading arms will facilitate transfer of the HFO.

MIS was awarded the contract for design, supply, construction and commissioning of a jet fuel storage facility at Hamriya Free Zone and 42 km Pipelineto Sharjah International Airport on 7th July 2005.

The project when commissioned will eliminate the present mode of transfer of jet fuel by road tankers (50 round trips of tankers), helping reduce the traffic congestion.

2006

MIS has signed a contract with Mosvold Jackup Ltd., a Cayman registered Offshore Company with Norwegian based initiators, to build two Friede & Goldman Ltd. designed Super M2 Jack Up Drilling Rigs at MIS yard in Sharjah - United Arab Emirates.

The Future
MIS continues servicing its clients in the same management style, based on mutual trust, smooth communication and coordination. Adopting new technology, to grow and expand its business lines and client base, MIS shall continue to improve efficiency, provide on-time execution, and ensures quality products and services.
